ROBERT G. HURTTGAM

Robert “Bob” G. Hurttgam, age 87, a resident of Lakeport, passed away on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at the United Hospice Residence in Marlette. He was born on February 10, 1934 in Lenox Township, Macomb, Michigan, a son of the late Robert and Florence (Bettcher) Hurttgam. While serving his country in the U.S. Army he met and married Billie J. Grantham on November 15, 1958 in Los Alamos, New Mexico. She preceded him in death on July 12, 2016.

Bob was a foreman for high voltage transmission work and line clearance for Detroit Edison. He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Lexington. Bob was very faithful and devoted to being an usher and served as an usher at Trinity Lutheran Church in Utica, Peace Lutheran Church in Sandusky, Faith Lutheran Church in Port Huron and St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Lexington, he was also a Stephen Minister at Faith Lutheran. Bob was an avid gardener and loved all kinds of yard work. His family was very important to him and he always enjoyed family affairs.

 

 

Bob is survived by his three daughters, Paula (Chuck) Ferguson of Peck, Lori (Jim) Loding of Applegate and Lisa (Rodney) Schmidt of Sandusky; 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; four siblings, Helen Smith, Delores Schook, Richard (Mary) Hurttgam and John (Patricia) Hurttgam; three sisters-in-law, Ann Carr, Midge Grantham and Katie Grantham; he was loved by many nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Rodney Pender; his great-grandson, Peter Ferguson and his sister, Janice Reed.

Vistiation was from 2-8 p.m. on Sunday at the Pomeroy Funeral Home in Lexington. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Lexington, with visiting at the church from 10-11 a.m. on Monday. Pastor Jacob Buday officiated. Interment followed in the Elk Township Cemetery in Peck.

Memorials in memory of Bob may be made to either the United Hospice of Marlette or St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
