JAMES “JIM” KEITH RAMSEY

James “Jim” Keith Ramsey, age 83, a lifelong resident of Marlette, passed away at home with his wife by his side on Monday, April 12, 2021.

He was born April 28, 1937 in Flynn Township, Marlette, son of the late Lloyd and Winifred (Groh) Ramsey. Mr. Ramsey was born in an old farm house on Montgomery Road. He went to Lane School for eight years. Jim went to Brown City high school and graduated with the class of 1960. He was a high school drop out and returned to school at the age of 21, and was an honor student. After graduation, Jim enlisted in the United States Army. He took basic training at Fort Knox Kentucky, and advanced training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Jim shipped out to Germany in January, 1961, and returned to the United States in August, 1963. He was stationed at Pinder Barracks, Zirndorf, near Nurnberg, Germany. While overseas, Jim became a Spec. E-5, and was a survey section chief. He married Paula Johnson on September 11, 1965. She passed away in June of 1992. On July 24, 1993, he married Scharron Green. Mr. Ramsey worked at the soil conservation service, Pontiac Motors, Frank Motor Homes, Travco, Cruise Aire, Eastman Mattress, Active Homes, and Chaso Royco. In July of 1968, Jim started working at Xplorer Motor Homes and worked there for 35 years. Until he retired, Jim was an engineer and draftsman.

 

 

Jim was a long time member of the Brown City Missionary Church. He also belonged to the American Legion. Jim had many hobbies and skills. He taught himself to do CAD and used it at work. Jim was well known for his photography work. He did woodworking, wood turning, and many kinds of crafts. Jim also did plumbing, electrical, and mechanical work. Reading was his main pastime and he had a large library. World War II was his main interest.

Jim is survived by his wife, Scharron; son, Bret Ramsey; daughter, Valerie (Rick) Martin; step-son, Robert (Linda) Green; step-son-in-law, Dennis Sinkler; seven grandchildren, Cody (Nichole Parks) Sinkler, Stephanie Ramsey, Cassie (Jarred) Gladieux, Heather Sondey, Cassidee Sinkler, Erica Puckett, and Faith Martin; and great-grandchildren, Aurora King and Dean Puckett.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Paula Ramsey; brother, William Ramsey; and stepdaughter, Lisa K. Sinkler.

A Funeral Service was held on April 19, 2021 at Marlette Cemetery, Marlette. Pastor Rick Fledderjohnn officiated.
