Decker man hurt in school bus crash

CARO — A Decker man was injured in a three-vehicle crash involving a school bus last Friday.

At approximately 3:51p.m., troopers from the Michigan State Police Caro Post were dispatched to the traffic accident involving a school bus from the Caro Community Schools in Tuscola County.

The crash occurred on East Caro Rd. near Cameron Road in Almer Township just outside the Caro City limits.

According to a state police press release, the investigation revealed that a Ford F-150 pickup truck traveling east failed to stop for a school bus. The bus was stopped with the red flashing lights and stop signal activated, preparing to discharge students at the bus stop.

The pickup truck rear-ended a Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Richard Yoe, 63, of Decker that was stopped behind the school bus, causing the Trailblazer to crash into the school bus. Troopers confirmed that the school bus red flashing lights and stop sign were activated.

The bus was carrying nine children ranging in ages from five to twelve.

Yoe received minor injuries and was transported from the scene to a local hospital for further evaluation. One 11-year-old child who was seated in the last seat on the bus also sustained minor injuries. Children were treated at the scene and released to their parents.

Troopers determined that alcohol or contributing factor. The driver of the Ford F-150 was cited on scene and released. East Caro Road was closed for approximately 30 minutes while the crash was being investigated and the roadway cleared.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by representatives from Caro Community Schools, Officers from the Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office, both the City of Caro Police Department and Fire Department, as well as Mobile Medical Response Ambulance Service.
