WASHINGTON TWP.— One personal injury resulted from a single UTV rollover accident at the corner of East Applegate and South Goetze roads Saturday afternoon.

According to the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office, about 3:10 p.m. a 2016 Polaris RZR Turbo Utility Task Vehicle (UTV) driven by a 50-year-old Kenockee Township man, and carrying one passenger, was southbound on Goetze when the driver left the road in order to avoid another UTV in his group that had stopped at the Applegate Road intersection.

The driver lost control and his UTV rolled over coming to rest on the passenger side.

The passenger, a 43-year-old man from Macomb, injured his hand in the crash as a result of it being caught between the roll cage and the road. He was treated at the scene by Sanilac EMS and taken to McKenzie hospital in Sandusky for further treatment. He was later transferred to Covenant hospital in Saginaw. There has been no further word on his condition.

The operator of the UTV was not injured.

Deputies investigating the mishap believe that alcohol and speed may have been contributing factors in the crash.

No names have been released pending possible charges.

Deputies were also assisted at the scene by the Elk Township Fire Department.
