Alcohol suspected in traffic crash

MAPLE VALLEY TWP. — A 23-yearold Brown City man was transported to the hospital after his motorcycle struck a SUV last week.

The accident occurred July 4 at approximately 6:48 p.m. at the intersection of Burns Line and Shephard roads.

The initial investigation showed the Brown City man was riding a 2014 Harley Davidson north on Shepard and failed to come to a complete stop at the Burns Line Road intersection, according to Sgt. Matt Armstrong of the Sanilac County Sheriff Department.

The motorcycle struck the passenger rear of an eastbound 2000 GMC Yukon driven by a 30-year-old woman from Brockway with three passengers in the vehicle, a 9-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl and a 3-yearold boy, all from Brockway.

The motorcyclist, who was not wearing a helmet was taken to McLaren hospital in Lapeer by Marlette EMS.

Alcohol was a factor in the accident for the motorcyclist, according to Armstrong.

The occupants of the Yukon were wearing seatbelts and were treated at the scene by EMS.

Names were not released pending possible criminal charges.
