Raiders split East baseball doubleheader

MARLETTE – The Marlette Red Raiders handed the Memphis Yellowjackets their first loss of the season IN GTC East baseball play last Thursday. After getting edged out, 3-2, in the opener, the Raiders bounced back for a, 5-0, triumph in the second game.

In the win in the nightcap, Sean Quade, Marcus Armstrong and Alex Heussner each had three hits and an RBI. Cody Hayden and Armstrong each pitched three scoreless innings.

In the opener, the Yellow jackets scored a run in each of the final two innings to rally past Marlette.

Heussner was on the mound for the Raiders, striking out 11 batters. He also was 2-for-4 at the plate.

In a non-league doubleheader earlier in the week, the Raiders pounded out 16 hits in their win in the nightcap. Heussner led the way with four hits, including a pair of doubles. Hayden, Quade and Chris Nickens added key hits in a six-ruin, fifth inning.

Quade and Armstrong had two hits apiece in the opener.
