On Sunday morning, May 6, the line of customers was long outside the Applegate Fire Hall where, inside the building, firefighters were using generators to fire up the grills for hot cakes.

The 30th anniversary of the breakfast that raises money for fire protection services went on despite the fact that the town had been without electricity since the previous Friday.

More than 600 people went through the serving line.

“Customers were lined up from the sidewalk in front of the fire trucks clear to the scrambled eggs,” said Glenn Olds, a village trustee who waited in line for about 25 minutes.

“No one was complaining,” said Olds. “Everything was running great, and the food was at its best…a very memorable 30th anniversary.”
