Gina Kraft Gina Kraft MARLETTE — A Marlette school board member faces assault, domestic violence and arson charges involving her husband.

Regina “Gina” Kraft, 52, of Marlette was arraigned April 27 in Sanilac County District Court.

Kraft is charged with assault with a dangerous, domestic violence, arson of personal property less than $200 and malicious destruction of property less than $200.

She is scheduled for a probable cause hearing on May 22 and a preliminary examination on May 29. She is free on $500 cash bond.

The alleged victim of the crimes is Kraft’s husband, Greg Kraft, according to Larence Kozma, chief assistant prosecutor for Lapeer County.

The weapon used in the alleged assault was a shovel, said Kozma.

The alleged incident occurred April 26 at around 5:30 p.m. in the 3000 block of Marlette Road, according to Sanilac County Undersheriff Brad Roff.

The News has filed a Freedom of Information request for the police report.

The Lapeer County prosecutor’s office was assigned the case by the Michigan Attorney General because of a potential conflict of interest on the part of the Sanilac County Prosecutor, Kozma stated.

The Marlette School Board was scheduled to meet on Monday evening, the first meeting since the charges were filed against Kraft. The meeting was held after the News went to press.

Kraft has been a controversial member of the Marlette board.

Last year the board banned Kraft from school property, with the exception of school board-related events, after she had an alleged physical confrontation with her former sister-in-law at the 2017 high school graduation.

The ban remains in effect despite attempts to have it lifted.
