Hooper and Washe are working hard and transitioning into distance events due to earlier injuries. And, we have four very competitive sophomores, who will be fun to watch. Our strength will be our depth in the 400 meter and above races as well as the throwing events. We lost depth in the sprint events …… but still have some quality, young athletes running there.”

Coach Steinhoff on the NCTL: “Peck, Kingston, Mayville and Deckerville were top four in the league last year and will probably still be strong. We are working hard to change our position and move into the top half of the league this year.”

Top returning players: Jenna Davis (Sr., P; HM All-County & All-NCTL; “solid player” – Coach Sarkella); Emily Sawyer (Sr., IF; Spec. Men. All- County; “excellent bat, hard worker and team leader” – Coach Sarkella); Mackenzie Falls (Jr., IF; HM All-NCTL; “excellent hands, good speed” – Coach Sarkella); Renae Prather (Jr., OF; “knows the game; needs to stay healthy” – Coach Sarkella); Daelyn Wolschleger (Sr., Utility; “always puts team first” – Coach Sarkella); Alliyah Baysdell (So., C; “exceptional athlete” – Coach Sarkella); Alexia Vlad (So.; “improving and learning the game” – Coach Sarkella)

Coach Sarkella on this year’s team: “We should continue to learn the game and improve during the season. There is good talent in the league and anyone is beatable on any given day. Weather is always an issue to contend with.”

CPS Tigers Varsity Girls Track

Top returning athletes: Tori Smith (Jr., shot/discus; 8th at regional, 5th at NCTL in shot out; 4th in NCTL in discus); Alliyah Baysdell (So., sprints/long jump; 6th in 100 & long jump at NCTL); Saydie Handley (Jr.); Maria Welsh (Sr.)

Top new prospects: Mikaylie Earl (Jr.); Madison Carter (So.); Stephanie Cahoon (Fr.); Liliana Grigg (Fr.); Shelby Cooney (Fr.); Jamy Sheridan (Fr.); Alexis Earl (Fr.); Ashley Henderson (Fr.)

Coach Steinhoff on this year’s team: “The best news is that our program is growing from six girls to 12 this year. We should be solid in the throwing events and sprint events. We are very young (no seniors), but have a good mix of runners and will now be able to field some competitive relay teams. Tori and Maria will be much improved in the throwing e vents. Saydie and Alliyah will both compete in the sprint events as well as the long jump.”

Coach Steinhoff on the NCTL: “The Deckerville girls are the reigning champs and will probably be favored again this year, with Dryden and Kingston also in the mix. Our goal is to work hard and see if we can move into the top half of the league standings this year.”

Coach Henderson on this year’s team: “All returning players have been an extreme benefit to me as a first year coach. I’ve been impressed with the wealth of knowledge and positive attitudes they bring each and every day.”
