Get ready to enjoy National Library Week 2018

It is time once again to honor that staunch provider of free information, the public library. Where else can you get so much for so little?

From the latest bestseller to free computer access, classes and informative lectures, the modern library has it all.

During National Library Week Sanilac County libraries will be rolling out the red carpet to their communities, hosting a wide variety of classes and activities. Best of all, it will be presented free or at minimal cost.

The libraries want to know how many guests to expect for the following special programs, so please pre-register by stopping by or calling the listed numbers.

Aitkin Memorial District Library

The library is located at 111 N. Howard Ave., Croswell. Sign up at library or preregister by calling 679-3627.

Thursday, April 12

"April Flowers for Kids," 5 p.m. Chase away winter blues by transplanting spring flowers into custom-made pots. Markers, plants, potting soil and terracotta pots provided. Free.

Moore Public Library, Lexington

Preregister by calling 359-867.

Wednesday, April 11

"Lexington Area History," 7 p.m., Lexington Village Hall, 7227 Huron Ave. Tom Regan will present a slide show and history. All ages welcome. Free.

Thursday, April 12

"Beachcombing/Rock Hounding," 6 p.m., Lexington Village Hall, 7227 Huron Ave. Jill Laidlaw will help you search the lakeshore on your next beach stroll. All ages. Free.

Saturdays, April 14-21

"Iron-On Quilting 101," 10:30 a.m., Lexington Village Hall, 7227 Huron Ave. Dawn Welsh will teach the basics of iron-on and machine quilting at a two-day session. All materials provided for spring wall hanging. Bring sharp scissors. Cost just $5.

Sanilac District Library

The library is located at 7130 Main St., Port Sanilac. Preregister by calling 810- 622-8623.

Wednesday-Thursday, April 11-12

Marie Willis of ReeMarkables will show you how to paint a fun design on a unique surface, such as an old picture frame, mirror, cabinet door, inside a shallow drawer or other collectible. She will provide a variety of objects to choose from. There may be an additional charge for an antique or specialty item. You don't have to be an artist to create a decorative art piece. This class will be held at 2 p.m. April 11 and repeated at 6 p.m. April 12.

Sandusky District Library

The library is located at 55 Sanilac Rd. Preregister by calling 810-648-2644.

"Treats at the Library," 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Thursday, April 12

"Square Foot Garden" presentation at noon. Admission of $10 per person includes soup luncheon.

Thursday, April 12

Adult Coloring Day, 3-6 p.m.

Friday, April 13

"Treats at the Library," 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Saturday, April 21

Dawn Malek from the Sanilac County Historic Village & Museum will speak beginning at 10 a.m. Light refreshments. Hosted by the Friends of the Library.

Deckerville Public Library

The library is located at 3542 Main St. Preregister by calling 810-376-8015 during open hours.

Wednesday, April 11

"Meet the People in Your Neighborhood," 6 p.m. A veterinarian from Thumb Veterinary Services will read a story and talk about what they do for animals.
