Brown City High names top seniors

Jacob Martus has been named Valedictorian of the Class of 2018.

Martus has posted an academic record, including a grade point average above 4.0 and an SAT score of 1,430.

Over the past two years, he has taken four advanced placement courses, and completed five dual-enrollment courses through St. Clair County Community College.

Martus has attended the Brown City Honors’ Banquet in each of his four years of high school. He is a member of the National Honor Society and has been a two-year member of the Math Academic Games team.

Martus played varsity football for three years, wrestled for four years, and is enjoying his fourth year of track and field.

Jacob plans to attend the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, to pursue a degree in engineering.

Jacob is the son of Jim and Kara Martus.

The Class of 2018’s Salutatorian is Raymond Shavers.

Academically, Shavers earned a grade point average above 4.0 and posted an SAT score of 1,330.

Over the past two years, Shavers has taken three AP courses, as well as five dual enrollment courses through St. Clair County Community College.

Shavers attended the Brown City Honors’ Banquet for five years and is a four-year member of the Science Academic Games team and the Quiz Bowl team. He was co-captain of both teams this past year.

Athletically, Shavers played four years of football, two of which were on varsity. He also played varsity baseball for the last two years.

This fall, Raymond plans to attend the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, to study neuroscience. Eventually, he would like to do postgraduate work in the same field.

Raymond is the son of Raymond and Cindi Shavers.
