The combination of the Devils’, 61-50, win at Harbor Beach and Marlette’s loss at Ubly, made it an outright championship. BC finished at 8-2 in the East, both losses coming to Marlette, and went 13-6 overall for the regular season. Marlette settled at 7-3 in the division and takes an 11-9 mark into districts.

The game with the Pirates (6-4, 11-9) was tight at halftime, with BC on top by three, 32-29. The Devils stretched their margin to six points, 48-42, in the third quarter and, then, quickly pushed their lead to double digits in the fourth and maintained the rest of the way.

“We have a few guys that don’t get minutes, but their hard work and commitment in practice help us to get ready for games like tonight. I can’t over-emphasize their importance to our success.”

Troshak then added, “We are fortunate enough to have great assistant coaches that have good basketball minds and guys really respond to their coaching.”

Brown City had its most balanced offensive attack of the season against the Pirates, with four players scoring in double figures. Senior Calvin Cook led the way with 19 points and was followed by Zen Lisiewski’s career-high 16. Anthony Geiger (11 reb.) and Jared McPhail followed with 12 and 11 points.

“It was an overall great game,” said Troshak. “We had some guys step up – Zen Lisiewski hit some big shots and grabbed some import rebounds, and we got some good minutes from our bench.”

He also pointed out the continued strong play from his regulars, including guard Matt Calabro, particularly on the defensive side.

Jacob Uhl led Ubly with 12 points.

“We got it done with defense and rebounding,” said Coach Troshak. “Our seniors stepped up and we had multiple guys play great on the defensive end.”
