It’s wintertime in the Heart of the Thumb

Save the date for the Brown City Rotary Club Pancake Supper for United Hospice Service. The 28th Annual Pancake Supper is Friday, Feb. 16 from 4 to 8 p.m. held in conjunction with the Brown City vs. Marlette varsity basketball game at Brown City High School. Proceeds benefit United Hospice Service of Marlette Regional Hospital.

Here’s another taste treat for your calendar! The Marlette Knights of Columbus will host a Fish and Shrimp Dinner on Friday, Feb. 16, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the St. Elizabeth Parish Hall. Carry outs are available.

Sign up for the Marlette Softball Bowling Fundraiser! The scotch doubles event is Saturday, Feb. 24 at Liberty Lanes in Sandusky. The price is $25 per couple. There are two shifts, 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. For more information, contact Sarah Kady at 989-467-0034. Support the Marlette softball program!

Roll up your sleeves for the American Red Cross blood drive Thursday, Feb. 8 from 12-5:45 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Parish Hall. Your donation can help save up to three lives. Sponsored by Marlette Hospital Auxiliary.

Guys and gals, are you ready for Valentine’s Day? Here’s a great gift idea for your sweetie! The Marlette Historical Society is selling Georgia Pecans! They’re available at Beagio’s, Treve’s, City Hall, Maggie and Red’s, and Before and After in Marlette, and Sunshiner’s and Creative Touch Nail Salon in Sandusky. The pecans are $10 and $12.

It's Winter Homecoming time at Marlette Schools! Homecoming is the week of Feb. 5-9, with the powder puff volleyball game Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. and the homecoming boys’ basketball game versus Memphis on Feb. 9 followed by the 9th through 12th grade dance.

Other activities in February for junior-senior high students include the Marlette Jr.-Sr. High Jazz Band performing at Central Michigan University on Feb. 2; the GTC League Wrestling Tournament at Marlette Feb. 3; MHSAA Team District Wrestling at Brown City on Feb. 8; Academic Games at St. Clair County Community College on Feb. 10; MHSAA Individual Wrestling District at Sandusky on Feb. 10; Sanilac County Honors Band at Brown City on Feb. 21; and the MHSAA Girls Basketball District Tournament at Marlette Feb. 26, 28 and March 2.

At Marlette Elementary School, the VIP and Me, Valentine Math Edition is Feb. 6 (RSVP required, the PTO Sweetheart Breakfast is Feb. 14 (RSVP), and Preschool & Kindergarten Roundup on Tuesday, Feb. 27 at 6 p.m.

Sanilac County Families Against Narcotics invites you to their monthly FAN Family Forum on Tuesday, Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. in the Marlette Regional Hospital-Auxiliary Room, 2770 Main St., Marlette. Guest speakers are Jamie Foster and Hanna Foster. Jamie and Hanna will speak on how addiction has impacted their lives, both from a mother’s perspective of an addict and a daughter’s perspective of living with addiction. There’s a free educational seminar on Atrial Fibrillation Wednesday, Feb. 28, 21-2 p.m. at Marlette Regional Hospital. If you or someone you know has Afib, not caused by a heart valve problem, and are interested in learning more about the condition, attend this seminar with cardiologist Safwan Kassas, MD.
