Deadline nears for dog licenses

Sanilac County residents are reminded the deadline to purchase dog licenses is Feb. 28.

Here are the ways to purchase a dog license:

*Go online to the Sanilac County Treasurer’s website at www.sanilaccounty.net/treasurer, click on the dog application form and mail in the form along with a check for your license. You must include a current rabies vaccination certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian. Your new license and tag will be mailed to you along with the return of your dog’s rabies certificate. If your dog is spayed or neutered, proof must be shown.

*Credit card payment is available on the website, but must provide a copy of the rabies vaccine either by fax or mailed to the office before receiving your purchased tags.

*Stop in and purchase the dog license at the office: Sanilac County Treasurer’s Office, 60 W. Sanilac, Room 204, Sandusky.

Michigan law requires all dogs four months old or older to be licensed in the county where the owner resides. No license can be issued without proof of current rabies vaccination signed by a licensed veterinarian.
