Pioneers miss upset

CAPAC – The young Cros-Lex Pioneers made a bid at upsetting undefeated Capac on Friday night. The Pioneers, though, fell just short, falling, 49-48, in overtime.

After leading by seven, 19-12, at halftime, Cros-Lex saw the Chiefs rally to go on top, 28-27, in the third quarter.

The game remained tight the rest of the way. C-L forced overtime, 43-43, but could not pull off the upset in the OT.

“The kids played extremely hard and gave a great effort, but we came up just short,” praised C-L coach Lance Campbell.

Freshmen Tyler Johnson and junior Nolan Lacey led the Pioneers in scoring with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Matt Kerrigan and Hunter Soper both grabbed six rebounds.

While Capac is 2-0 in league play and 7-0 overall, Cros-Lex slipped to 0-2 and 3-3.
