Lady Pioneers go to 3-0 in BWAC

CAPAC – Despite having a younger squad, overall, this season, Coach Darren Bongard of Cros- Lex could still be in line for a sixth straight BWAC title in girls basketball.

There is a long way to go, yet, but the Lady Pioneers went to 3-0 in conference play last Friday night, easily handling Capac, 47-32.

“Since we have not played since December 22, I was happy with our performance,” noted Bongard. “We must still do a better job taking care of the basketball and being more aggressive with 50/50 loose balls.”

Cros-Lex was in in charge by halftime against the Chiefs, 28-14. The lead went to 20 points, 39-19, in the third quarter.

Junior guard Sydney Soper led the scoring with 13 points and added four assists and three steals. Sophomore Lily Connelly was next in scoring with 11 points while Gabbie Childers and Devyn Gordon chipped in with eight and seven points. Childers, who also had five steals, was big under the boards with 11 rebounds while Gordon added seven.

The next three BWAC games will tell a little more for the Lady Pioneers (4-3 overall) with Imlay City (3-0, last night-Tuesday), at home against Richmond (2-1) this Friday, and hosting Armada (3-0) on Tuesday, Jan. 16.
