Deborah Seifferlein Deborah Seifferlein The preliminary examination of an accused embezzler will await the assignment of a new judge.

Both Sanilac County District Court Judge Gregory Ross and Circuit Judge Donald Teeple recused themselves from the case to avoid potential conflicts of interest.

The actions by the judges postponed the exam for Deborah Seifferlein, 58, of Decker, which was scheduled Jan. 3 in district court.

According to district court administrator Traci Franzel, when Ross disqualified himself, the case was reassigned internally to Teeple, who also stepped aside.

Teeple requested a referral to the state court administrator’s office to have another judge assigned to the case, Franzel explained.

Seifferlein, the former bookkeeper for Marlette Roofing and Sheet Metal in Marlette, is accused of stealing more than $50,000 from the company since 2010.

She faces felony charges of forgery and embezzlement.

The Decker woman was arrested Dec. 14 following a three-month investigation by the Sanilac County Sheriff Department. She is free on $5,000 personal bond.
