It’s a Dickens of a Christmas in Deckerville

DECKERVILLE — Come to Deckerville this Friday as the town celebrates Dickens of a Christmas.

The holiday event sponsored by the Deckerville Community Development Corporation features a visit by Old St. Nick and his reindeer, reindeer games, Christmas cookie decorating, dinner and a movie, and more.

Here are the Dickens of a Christmas activities Fri., Dec. 8 from 3:30-7:30 p.m.:

*Bring the children to see Santa, the elves and reindeer at Keinath Tire;

*Play Reindeer Games – stop by businesses with a red bow hanging on their doors for Christmas activities on Main Street. Children will receive “Santa Bucks” to shop at the Community Center for a free gift;

*Get a family photo with a Christmas sleigh downtown from 3-5 p.m.;

*Enjoy dinner and a movie at D’ville Diner – movie times 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. for “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”;

*Enter drawing at the Community Center for a chance to win a girl’s or boy’s gift, sponsored by Autumwood of Deckerville;

*Enjoy Christmas cookie decorating at Deckerville Library from 4-6:30 p.m.;

*Stop at Project Blessing for in-store specials and a drawing to win a free Christmas toy;

*Visit Eastern Michigan Bank to enter a drawing for a Christmas prize;

*Visit Exchange State Bank 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. to enter a drawing for a $50 gift card;

*Honor loved ones by decorating a bag for the Angel Walk;

*Watch the Deckerville School Pom Squad perform their holiday routine on Main Street at 6:30 p.m., weather permitting;

*Join the holiday caroling downtown at 6:45 p.m. with the school band

*Attend the downtown Christmas tree lighting at 7 p.m. with Dickens of a Christmas Master of Ceremonies, Dr. and Mrs. Fred Walton

The DCDC is also sponsoring the “Make the Village Merry & Bright Contest.” The first place prize is a $100 local business voucher and the second place prize is a $25 local business voucher.

The contest is open to Deckerville area residents and businesses in the village of Deckerville and up to four miles from downtown. Judging of homes and businesses that are the most “Merry & Bright” will be Thursday, Dec. 7.
