Riley Ford Riley Ford Marlette sophomore Riley Ford did not let a large field of runners stop her from doing her best at the Portage Invitational on Saturday.

Ford finished 10th out of 277 runners in the Division 3 girls cross country race, finishing in a school-record time of 19:24.

Coach Chris Titus of the Red Raiders said the course was very challenging.

“It is a tough course with lots of hills and a tremendous field of runners you never see anywhere else. We’re proud of Riley for breaking that record and for all the kids gritting it out on the hills.”

Titus added, “Bad Axe and Ubly were the only other local teams, so it’s exciting to see so many new faces to race. We’re proud of the effort all the kids put in today. There were several near PR’s and three actual PR’s, so it was a success.”
