Let’s talk about SANDUSKY!

Spring is in the air – let’s talk about the county seat!

The Sow and Hoe Garden Club invites you to their annual perennial plant sale co-sponsored by the Sandusky Arts Council. The sale is Sat., May 20 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at the gazebo on the courthouse lawn. Sow and Hoe is a non-profit organization with proceeds from the sale going toward community outreach programs.

The Moving Wall will be on display on the courthouse lawn over Memorial Day Weekend. Thanks to the efforts of Sandusky High School students, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Moving Wall, a half-sized replica of the monument in Washington D.C., will be on display, 24 hours a day, starting the evening of Thurs., May 25 through Mon., May 29.

Lot of activities are planned at Sandusky High School, as the end of the school year, and graduation approach. The Awards Program is Wed., May 17 in the gym. On May 18, there’s the Junior-Senior Breakfast in the cafeteria, the leadoff to several activities that day – marching band rehearsal followed by the annual cookout from around 12-1 p.m., cap and gown pickup after the cookout, Baccalaureate at 8 p.m. in the gym sponsored by Sandusky Council of Churches, Project Graduation at Maple Valley School after Baccalaureate. Graduation is Sun., May 21 at 2 p.m. in the gym.

Meanwhile, at Sandusky Elementary, the kindergarten music program is Mon., May 8 at 6 p.m., and the 4th-grade recorder performance at 7:30 p.m. On Tues., May 9, the 1st, 2nd and 3rd-grade music program is at 6 p.m. The Scholastic Book Fair runs May 8-12, and on Fri., May 26 it’s the 2017 Field Day.

The Sanilac Community Symphonic Band will be having their Spring Concert Sun., May 7 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Sandusky at 3 p.m. The Peanut Vendor and New Sounds of the Carpenters are just a few of the toe tapping tunes that will be played. Free parking and refreshments will be provided.

McKenzie Health System invites you to Lunch and Learn Wed., May 17 featuring a talk on “Stroke Robot” by Vickie Gordon, director of Telehealth at St. John Providence Health System and Team. Lunch and Learn is in the MHS Dining Room, 120 Delaware Street. The cost is $5. Registration is required, call 810-648-6157.

Speaking of health, circle Mon., May 22 on the calendar for the Healthy Living Workshop with Master Gardener Merry Martin discussing container gardening. The free program starts at 5:30 p.m. in McKenzie Health System Dining Room.

Delivery is next week for the Geranium Sale fundraiser sponsored by Sandusky Community Hearts. Flowers will arrive at the Sanilac County Fairgrounds Fri., May 12 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. – just in time for Mother’s Day. Day of Sale flowers available. For information call Diane at 810-404-9893.

Swing your partner at the Thumb Dance Club! The Saturday evening dances are May 13 featuring The Ray Govaere Band and May 27 Lighthouse Three. Dance from 7-10:30 p.m. at Maple Valley School, 138 Maple Valley Street. For more information, call Leola at 810-657-9349 or Dorothy at 810-404-4250.
