Lady Eagles start 4-0

DECKERVILLE – The Deckerville softball team settled for second place in NCTL play a year ago. Apparently, they are looking for more than that this season.

The Lady Eagles started league play on a high note last week by sweeping two league doubleheaders.

Last Thursday, they outslugged Caseville twice, 12-5, and 12-8. In the opener, Deckerville scored five times in the sixth inning to open up a safe lead.

Leading a 15-hit attack were Emma Morningstar with three hits, including a double and an RBI, and Katelyn Vogel with three singles and 4 RBI. Claudia Harter added a triple, single and RBI while four other players all drove in a run. Lindsey Shutz was the starting and winning pitcher.

The Lady Eagles built a, 11-4 lead, in the nightcap and held on.

Morningstar had three more hits in that contest, including a two-bagger and had three RBI while Vogel had a single, double and two RBI. Madisyn Guza, the winning pitcher, also had two singles.

Deckerville 9-12, Dryden 3-1: Shutz was the winning pitcher in the first game against the Cardinals last Monday, striking out 14 batters. Morningstar led at the plate with a triple and two doubles while Vogel brought home two runs with a single.

Guza pitched the second game, striking out seven and scattering six hits. She also helped her own cause with a triple, single and two RBI. Freshman Mickaela Warczinsky slapped out four singles and drove in two runs.
