Dr. Mitch Babcock (far right) of FitnessTx, PLLC, put on a demonstration of strength training during the recent Coaches’ Sport Summit out on by Marlette Regional Hospital. The Marlette Regional Hospital Foundation enjoyed participation from over 80 coaches representing nine school systems in Sanilac, Huron, Tuscola, and Lapeer Counties for the Coaches Sports Summit event recently held at North Branch High School.

This educational event was free to attend and was designed to assist area coaches, assistant coaches, trainers, and athletic directors in training healthy athletes and preventing sports-related injuries. Attendees listened to keynote speaker Matt Fields from Kingston Community Schools who shared his experience with a sudden cardiac arrest that took place in his PE class in 2015, and attendees heard encouraging coaching techniques from Deckerville Track and Field Coach and Sweeny Award recipient Steve Linn. Break-out sessions were provided by Dr. William Starbird of North Branch Family HealthCare who spoke to the dangers of energy drinks, as well as Dr. Mitch Babcock of FitnessTx, PLLC who demonstrated strength training techniques and best practices.

Sara Redman, MRH Foundation & Marketing Manager commented, “The Sports Summit is a great community benefit service for area coaches who have a desire to educate themselves on best practices for maintaining the health and wellbeing of their student athletes. Our approach with this event was to address topics relevant for today’s athletics and provide knowledge and tools that could be easily incorporated into any sport.”

The Marlette Regional Hospital Foundation would like to thank and recognize the following groups/businesses for their support of this event: Ben’s Supercenter, Culligan Water Conditioning, Marlette Regional Hospital nutritional services department, North Branch Community Schools, and Subway (Marlette).
