Middle school quiz bowl completes regular season

The last monthly competition between the Thumb Area Quiz Bowl League’s middle school teams took place April 11 at Marlette Elementary.

Teams from Sandusky, Almont and Brown City joined the Marlette fourth through eighth graders in a six-match tournament for grades 4-5-6 and also for grades 7-8.

The April competition was the last monthly tournament between teams for the 2016-2017 school year. The middle school students have one more event on May 23, the annual Quiz Bowl Bee and the Tournament of Champions in which all contestants compete for top honors individually. The events are to be held at the Maple Valley School in Sandusky.

On April 11, in grades 4-5-6, it was the Brown City A team sweeping all of their matches to take home first place in a win over Almont A (120- 35). Marlette C won third place with a 125-60 victory over Marlette D in the final match. Marlette B ended up in fifth place over Almont B (105-15) in the seven-team field. Marlette A ended in seventh.

Also winning all six matches was the Sandusky A team which took first place in the highly- competitive 7-8 division. Sandusky scored 130 points over Almont A’s 105 points to claim the victory. Brown City A took third place in the 7/8 division with a 90-60 win over Brown City B. Fifth place was won by Sandusky C over Sandusky B (105-30) and Marlette D ended the day in seventh.
