Bernie Thom, age 69 of Gladwin passed away unexpectedly Saturday, December 5, 2015 at his home in Gladwin, Mich. Bernie and his wife have lived in Gladwin the past 15 years and were previously from the Marlette area.

He was born October 3, 1946 in Cass City, the son Gustav and Irma (Smith) Thom.

He graduated from Marlette High School in 1964. Bernie served his country in the U.S. Army as a medic during the Vietnam War.

In 1982 he married Sheila Struble in Marlette.

Bernie worked as a truck driver for Roadway Express for 12 years, retiring in 2000. He also worked for Bob Lindsay Excavating and helped on the Gus Thom farm.

He is survived by his wife Sheila of 33 years of marriage; his mother Irma Thom; brother Karl Thom; sister Charlotte (Lyle) Brockway, several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Gustav E. Thom.

Funeral services were held at Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette. Pastor Michael Hollenbeck officiated. Burial was at the Marlette Cemetery with full military honors.
