It’s back to school time! Let’s talk about Sandusky!

Sandusky District Library and the Friends Group invite you on a trip to the Kerrytown BookFest in Ann Arbor. The BookFest takes place Sept. 7. The bus departs from the library at 9 a.m. and arrives back around 7 p.m. The cost is $15 per person for round-trip transportation. The Sandusky Band Boosters are getting ready for their Dining Out to Donate Wednesdays, a fundraising project for the high school band trip to Florida. Restaurants will donate 20% of their proceeds to the trip. Here’s the schedule: Sept. 10, 5-9 p.m., Big Boy; Sept. 17, 4-7 p.m., McDonald’s; and Sept. 24, 5-9 p.m., Liberty Lanes.

The Sandusky Board of Education wants to hear from you! The board’s second Town Hall Meeting regarding a possible February bond election will be held Sept. 8, 6:30 p.m., in the junior-senior high cafeteria. This will be the final town hall event at which the board is looking for suggestions from citizens on plans for school improvements, including technology purchases, roof replacements and parking lot resurfacing.

Here’s a neat fundraiser to recognize and support local veterans. It’s the Sandusky Military Appreciation Football Game Sept. 12, 7 p.m. – the first home game of the season for Sandusky’s varsity team. Veterans are admitted free. Special t-shirts will recognize and thank veterans for their service. Shirts are $15, and for an additional donation of $10 you can add the name of a veteran you’d like to honor – 5 names for $30. A list of all honored vets will appear on the back of every shirt. Proceeds will go to the Sandusky VFW to support local veterans. Order forms are at Stolikers Custom Designs, TNT Equipment, Sandusky Elementary and Sandusky Junior-Senior High.

One final school-related item. Lenora Arroyo, a Foster Grandparent at Sandusky Elementary, spent the summer painting murals on the walls. They’re beautiful! She also did some art work last spring at the health department. Check out her work that makes the school building student friendly!

Countryside Free Methodist Church kicks off a new season of Wednesday night CLC (Christian Life Club) with a Fun Fair Sept. 3, 6:30-8 p.m., at the church, 912 W. Sanilac Rd. For details call 810-648-2164.

You can honor local volunteers at the 2014 Silver Lining awards Sept. 11, 7 p.m., at the Firebird Theater. Silver Lining recognizes adults, young people, organizations and businesses that improve the quality of life of people in Sanilac County. For details call 810-648-3634.

Friends of Sandusky Splash Pad is offering dinner and entertainment Sept. 13. The fundraising event for the Splash Pad project will feature entertainment by Dueling Pianos following dinner at 6:30 p.m. at Woodland Hills Golf Club, Sandusky. Doors open at 6 p.m. for cocktails. Tickets are $100 per couple, which includes dinner and 4 drink tickets. For details, call 810-648-4600.
