Man stabbed in dispute over beer cooler

A family gathering for Easter turned violent when two men apparently argued over a beer cooler.

Sanilac County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to McKenzie Memorial Hospital in Sandusky where a 31-year-old Clarkston man was being treated for a stab wound to the abdomen.

According to Sgt. Steve McKenney, the felonious assault occurred April 19 around 9:10 p.m. in Sanilac Township. The victim was stabbed during an argument with another family member, a 42-year-old man from Clarkston.

“They had an argument and the guy went to leave and when he came back … to try to … get his beer cooler the stabbing occurred,” said Undersheriff Brad Roff.

Deputy Sheriff Josh Horst reported the suspect fled the scene shortly after the assault. The man was arrested on unrelated charges at his residence April 23 by Oakland County sheriff’s deputies.

The suspect will face criminal charges in Sanilac County upon his release from the Oakland County Jail. The victim was treated and released from the hospital the night of the incident.
