Alexander George Doering, age 72, of Croswell passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2013.

He was born in Blaine, Mich. on October 7, 1940, the son of the late Livingston and Julia (Wakefield) Doering.

Alex graduated from Croswell-Lexington High School in 1960. He worked at Yale Rubber in Sandusky for a number of years, and then was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1963. He was stationed at Fort Knox, Ky., and was discharged in 1965. After discharge, he worked construction as an Operating Engineer, Local #324 for many years. Since retirement, Alex worked at Pioneer Sugar in Croswell.

He spent his spare time restoring antique vehicles and tractors, including the 1944 U.S. Army Jeep which he proudly displayed in many local parades, as well as the Woodward Dream Cruise. Alex belonged to Croswell Lodge # 469 F&AM.

He is survived by his daughter, Julie (Patrick) O’Malley; his granddaughters, Hailey Van Syckle and Morgan O’Malley, all of Peck; Marie Doering of Croswell; sister Barbara (Robert) Logan of Pittsburgh, Pa.; brothers, Livingston (Michelle) Doering of Chesterfield, Twp.; Louis (Kathleen) Doering of Ft. Gratiot; and Roger (Linda) Doering of Riley, Mich.; several nieces and nephews, and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and his stepfather, Henry Ostrowski.

Cremation has taken place.

There will be a casual gathering for friends and family to share memories of Alex on Sunday, February 24, 2013, at 3:00 p.m., at the Croswell American Legion, 97 W. Harrington Rd.
