Dalbec to play volleyball at SC4

CROSWELL - While she plays other sports in high school, Caitlin Dalbec’s main passion has always been volleyball. Now, she will get a chance to continue competing in that sport.

Dalbec, a senior at Cros-Lex High School, signed her letter of intent last Wednesday afternoon to attend St. Clair County Community College and compete on the women’s volleyball team next fall.

“I’m happy because it’s getting this opportunity to get a volleyball scholarship, especially coming from Cros-Lex, a small town. I just tried hard and it happened,” Dalbec commented about extending her sports career and education.

On the Lady Pioneers varsity volleyball squad the last two and a half seasons, Dalbec, a 5’3” back row player, was selected to the All-Thumb First Team as a libero this past fall. She has also earned All- County and All-BWAC honors twice and was named the team’s co-Most Valuable Player this past season. Cros-Lex has won back-to-back league titles with Dalbec in the starting line-up.

Coach Chuck Weisner of SC4 could not have been for excited about landing Dalbec as one of his recruits for next season.

“We have a club program... not through the school, but through me, and she has played for me, and it’s like you can’t get a ball passed her,” Weisner said. “She just plays very, very hard and plays with all the passion she has. We know she’s going to do that, and, maybe, at a higher level yet when she gets to college.

“She’s after every ball. She’s a gamer and she’s got tons of passion. That’s what we’re hoping for, and she’s got it.”

Weisner said he expects Dalbec to see action right away next season.

Dalbec, meanwhile, said she is ready. “I think we’re almost all freshmen on the team and it will be a new challenge,” she remarked. “(Coach) told me he liked watching me play volleyball and how dedicated I was and how good I worked with my team. That made me feel comfortable.”

Dalbec, who is also a four-year soccer player at Cros-Lex and has been selected as one of the captain’s on this spring’s squad, plans to study nursing at SC4. She is the daughter of Amanda and Butch Dalbec.
