Pair charged in fairgrounds vandalism case

Two 17-year-olds have been bound over to Sanilac County Circuit Court on charges related to the vandalism of the 4-H Fairgrounds in Sandusky.

Last week Tyler S. Sample, Sandusky, and Jesse York, Columbiaville, waived their preliminary exams in 73rd District Court. Sample is scheduled for circuit court arraignment on Jan. 23, York on Jan. 30.

Both teens are charged with breaking and entering with intent to commit larceny; malicious destruction of building $1,000 to $20,000; conspiracy malicious destruction $1,000 to $20,000; and larceny in building.

They are accused of vandalizing the 4-H Fair Office, Dairy Queen, Hockey Association, and VFW buildings the night of Sept. 18.

There was more than $10,000 in damage, according to Sandusky Chief of Police Brett Lester.

He said windows were broken and outdoor lights shot out by BB-gun pellets. There was also a couple thousand dollars in damage to a tractor that was shot at.
