Back to school time! Be mindful how you drive! Let’s talk about Sandusky!

Help support the Sandusky Youth Center at the Swiss Steak Dinner Fundraiser on Sept. 9! Bring your appetite to the Sandusky Presbyterian Church, 104 Lexington St., from 5-7 p.m. Carry-outs 810-648-3335. All proceeds go to the Youth Center’s after-school activities. By the way, there’s an open house for parents and children at the Youth Center, 169 Argyle St. on Sept. 27 from 3-6 p.m. - call 810-648-3610 for more information.

Circle Sept. 10 on your calendar - it’s going to be a busy day with three events!

Start the morning with the Walk to Remember and 5K Run at Diamond Trail Park on Maple Valley Street south of the elementary school. Registration is at 9 a.m. and the run and walk are at 9:30. The event ends at 11:30 a.m. Proceeds are for the Walk to Remember Respite Fund. Door prizes for participants. Light breakfast before, hot dogs after event. Registration is $20. After the Walk, come to the free Police-Firemen-EMT Field Day and Family Fun Day! There’s a parade of emergency vehicles through downtown Sandusky at 11 a.m. that ends at the 4-H Fairgrounds where all the activities occur. A memorial service for those lost in the last year will be held at noon. Activities for kids of all ages include police and firefighter competitions, police car and fire truck rides, Safetyville, car seat checks, Michigan Child ID program, fire department repelling demonstration, Jaws of Life, “Kiddie Burn” house, drugsniffing dog demonstrations, and firemen putting out a car fire! Activities end at 4 p.m.

Here’s another event for Sept. 10 in Sandusky! All women are invited to hear Beth Moore’s inspiring and life-changing teachings through her Living Proof Live Simulcast event at Open Door Missionary Church, 770 W. Sanilac Ave. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. The event starts at 10 a.m. and ends around 5 p.m., with a 90- minute lunch break, and morning and afternoon snack breaks. Group seating available for women’s church groups. For tickets, call 810-648-3512.

Two Sandusky churches have activities on Sept. 11. There’s a Sunday School Party for all ages at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church 68 Lexington St. Parents are welcome. Snacks, games, volleyball, more. Call 810-648-2606. And the Sandusky Baptist Church is having Hot Potato Sunday and Country Gospel Songfest with Amber and Wyatt Howey. Strike up a fundraiser for the Sandusky High School Band! Scotch Doubles Bowling is planned Sept. 17 at Liberty Lanes for a trip to Disney World. 6 and 9 p.m. shifts. $25 per two-person teams. Prizes for best dressed bowling attire, best dressed teams, 50/50 raffle. Contact a band member to sign up or call 810- 648-4331.
