Garrett Bular
Garrett Bular, a player in the Sanilac County Hockey Association, was invited to participate in the Hockey Night in Boston boys Midwest tryout tournament held recently at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube.
The Ann Arbor tournament is used to select a roster of top players from Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Ohio, Wisconsin and western Pennsylvania to develop a single Midwest team at the sophomore level. The selected team members participate in a national tournament in Boston, consisting of 10 regional teams from across the United States and parts of Canada.
Garrett was invited to a tryout as a defenseman at the Ann Arbor tournament, which was held June 17-19. After the tournament, he was contacted and informed that he was one of six defensemen selected to fill the 20-man roster which would be participating in the Boston tournament (July 11-17) at the Haverhill Valley Forum in Massachusetts
Garrett’s team, the Midwest Sophomores, went 7-0 during the tournament, playing teams from the Mid Atlantic, Greater Boston, North East, North Florida, South Florida, and North Shore regions. The team finished the tourney by defeating the Eastern Central team, 5-4, in the championship game.
The Midwest team outscored its opposition during the tournament, 40-17.
Garrett said that he enjoyed the experience and credits the team’s success to great team chemistry and positional play.
