Sandusky Quiz Bowl team wins first meet

The Sandusky High School Quiz Bowl Team took a first place at the Jan. 28 tournament.

Going 3-0 at their home tournament, the Sandusky A-Team came out on top after defeating Brown City A in the varsity championship match.

North Branch finished third and Carsonville-Port Sanilac fourth.

With the win, the Sandusky team secured a spot at the State of Micigan Quiz Bowl Championship at MSU in April. A school must win a tournament comprised of four or more high school teams to be elegible for the state championship games. Sandusky High School teams have qualified for the state championship for ten years in a row. They finished third in the state in 2008.

Other local teams that have qualified for the state games include Croswell-Lexington, and Marlette.

The Sandusky Junior Varsity Team came in second in the finals behind an unbeaten Bad Axe C in the junior varsity division.

At the Feb. 2 Sanilac County Middle School Quiz Bowl Tournament, the Marlette A team took first place, finishing at 5-1 over runner-up Marlette B. Cros- Lex A, which was also 5-1 that day, took third place over Cros- Lex D. Five of the seven county schools participated.
