Lady Eagles end slump DECKERVILLE - The month of January was a long one for Coach Pat Oswald. His Deckerville girls hoops squad could not find a way to win a GTC East game. However, on Friday night that all ended when the Lady Eagles rolled past Ubly, 57-46. Deckerville is now 1-6 in the East and 6-7 overall while the Bearcats slipped to 0-6, 1-12. After a back-and-forth first quarter, Deckerville began to take control, leading 27-18 at the break and 41-27 after three quarters. “It was a good, aggressive game for us,” said Oswald. “We played good transition ball. We looked to move the ball and spread it out more, too. That created a lot of offense for us.” Senior guard Carleah Kramer also came up with one of her best performances of the season for Deckerville, finishing with a team-high 16 points, including 6-for-6 at the stripe, and adding eight rebounds and three steals. “She was very aggressive on defense,” praised Oswald. “We were forcing turnovers and she was in the right place, at the right time, and was getting up the floor on steals. She scored from the outside, too. She stepped up.” Senior post Chelsea Kritzman added 14 points and point guard Shelby McVittie netted nine points and collected four streals. Ubly was paced by Nicole Franzel’s 19 points. |
