Marlette schools closed

Although there were no confirmed cases of the HINIflu as of Monday, Marlette Community Schools were closed Tuesday and Wednesday because of a high rate of absenses. With approximately 25 percent of the students in the junior senior high school and about 20% in the elementary building absent from classes Monday, officials decided to shutdown the K-12 system on Nov. 3-4.

“We are closing do to illness; however we have no confirmed cases of H1N1 as of right now,” stated Superintendent Jeriann Patterson on Monday.

As of last Thursday, there had been only one confirmed case of HINI in Sanilac County schools. Deckerville Elementary reported one student was absent for about a week beginning Oct. 22, according to Superintendent Donald Schelke. The school sent a letter home to parents notifying them of the case, which was confirmed by the student’s private physician, Schelke stated. The student has since returned to school.
