SANFORD W. (SANDY) HIGGINS

Sanford W. (Sandy) Higgins, age 87, of Sandusky, died Thursday, October 8, 2009 at McKenzie Memorial Hospital in Sandusky, Michigan.

He was born April 13, 1922 in Sandusky, Michigan the son of the late Wesley and Margaret (Loughren) Higgins.

He was a lifelong area resident and farmer. He also worked for 25 plus years at Marlette Homes in Marlette, Michigan.

Sanford married Dora K. Daws on June 19, 1948 in Peck, Michigan. She died on November 2, 1991, he then married Maxine Ross Muxlow on December 27, 1996.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine of Sandusky; three sons, Lee (Diane) Higgins of Sandusky, Larry (Bonnie) Higgins of Sandusky, Lawayne Higgins & Debra of Sandusky; three daughters, Lorraine (Randy) Cramer of Sandusky, Lynn (Gary) Cummins of Port Huron, Lucille Higgins of Sandusky, Luann (Ray) Jagotka of Sandusky; husband of the late Lavonne, Timothy Hendershot of Sandusky; one step-son, Terry (Linda) Muxlow of Florida; one-stepdaughter, Tim (Shelly) Frostick of Peck; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Lavonne Hendershot on February 28, 2009; one brother, Martin and two sisters, Clara and Vera.

Funeral services were held at Countryside Free Methodist Church with Rev. Paul Castle officiating.

Burial was in the Zion Cemetery in Sandusky.
