      GRAND RAPIDS - After two years away from her State championship title, Melanie Ball, was not thinking about bowling at a competitive level again, except on perhaps, some adult leagues. Now, she’s in the starting group on the Davenport University (Grand Rapids) women’s bowling team and adjusting to the collegiate game.

      HARBOR BEACH - Coach Al DeMott is nervous every time he has to take his Lady Redskins basketball team up to Harbor Beach. Sandusky has suffered some critical league losses up at the Hurobn County school, whether it was the old gym or the newer one.

Lady Eagles end slump
      DECKERVILLE - The month of January was a long one for Coach Pat Oswald. His Deckerville girls hoops squad could not find a way to win a GTC East game. However, on Friday night that all ended when the Lady Eagles rolled past Ubly, 57-46. Deckerville is now 1-6 in the East and 6-7 overall while the Bearcats slipped to 0-6, 1-12.

      UBLY - Coach Cindy Burton feels her team was still feeling the residual effects from a tough one-point loss at Sandusky last week. But, it still did not stop her Lady Green Devils from easily going to 5-1 in the GTC East last Wednesday, dumping Ubly, 67-30.

      SANDUSKY - After a nice early start to the season, times have turned harder for Ryan Pritchett, Sandusky’s rookie boys hoops coach. His Redskins had a chance to tighten the GTC East standings Friday night, but instead, Harbor Beach remained unbeaten by pulling away to a 62-51 victory at the Thumb Dome.

CPS shares South lead with win
      FAIRGROVE - A pair of victories in NCTL boys hoops play last week has pushed the CPS Tigers into a share of the South Division lead. The latest triumph came at Akron-Fairgrove on Friday night when they fought off the Vikings, 44-35. The Tigers, at 6- 3, 7-5 overall, share the division lead with Peck.

Pirates miss upset of Cardinals
      PECK - The improving Peck girls basketball team ended a tough eight-day stretch of games in NCTL play on Monday by just missing an upset. The Lady Pirates fell at home to Kingston, 37-34. Peck (-1-10, 1-11) outscored the Cardinals (10-4, 11-4), 22- 18, in the second half after trailing by seven at the intermission.

Memphis too hot for CPS girls
      MEMPHIS - Memphis, the NCTL South leaders, had a torrid shooting night and were too much for CPS in an NCTL South girls hoops contest Monday night. The Yellowjackets (12-1in the South, 12-2 overall) tamed the Lafdy Tigers, 63-38.

Lady Pioneers drop two in BWAC
      CAPAC - After winning four of its last five games overall, Cros-Lex ran into some problems in BWAC play last week. First, it was a good Yale team, and, then, it was lousy shooting. On Friday night at Capac, the Lady Pioneers shot less than 20% from the floor and fell to the Chiefs, 39-26.
